Report: Manchester United face doubled demands for midfield target

Manchester United may now face paying double the expected price to sign Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha this summer.

It’s not often we see former Manchester City talents being linked with big moves to Old Trafford.

That has been the case with Nmecha though, who was released by City back in the summer of 2021.

The midfielder decided to join his brother Lukas – another former City talent – at Wolfsburg and both have really kicked on.

Nmecha has now picked up his first Germany cap after a strong season for Wolfsburg, picking up six assists and three goals in the Bundesliga.

The 22-year-old now finds himself in demand, with Manchester United thought to be interested.

Sport1 reported earlier in June that Manchester United have been watching Nmecha and had even been speaking to his father about a deal.

That report claimed that Wolfsburg were seeking around €15million (£13million) for Nmecha – but the price could now be much higher.

Manchester United target Felix Nmecha will cost more than expected

Sky Germany’s Philipp Hinze reports that Wolfsburg are seeking up to €30million (£26million) for Nmecha this summer.

That’s double the price initially claimed, with Wolfsburg potentially hiking up the price due to increased interest.

Hinze notes that Newcastle United are very interested in Nmecha and have scouted him on a number of occasions.

Borussia Dortmund are also keen on Nmecha as they look to improve after coming agonisingly close to winning the Bundesliga title.

Wolfsburg are being smart here; if three Champions League clubs want Nmecha, why sell for a price as low as £13million?

The hope is that all three clubs get into a war for Nmecha and that the £26million demands end up being met this summer.

We can’t see United going that high for Nmecha though, especially with funds surely being focused on Mason Mount and a new striker.

Nmecha may have been a budget-friendly option at £13million, but double the price would likely be too rich for United’s blood.
