Reece James believes everybody at Chelsea will be sad if Mason Mount does complete a move to Manchester United.

Chelsea have been fighting to keep Mount at Stamford Bridge given that he is out of contract in 2024.

Now entering the final year of his deal at Chelsea, Mount looks set to leave this summer.

Arsenal and Liverpool were heavily linked but it now looks like Manchester United have pushed to the front of the queue.

The Telegraph report that United have now agreed personal terms with Mount and a summer deal is thoroughly expected.

It’s unclear just how much United will be paying for Mount but it looks like the Red Devils will win the race.

Mount may have had a disappointing campaign against the backdrop of his contract saga, but his quality is undoubted.

Mount is creative and dangerous in the final third whilst being an incredibly hard-worker who is a manager’s dream.

Erik ten Hag will want this deal done quickly in order to avoid missing out – and his exit would hurt Reece James.

Reece James comments on Mason Mount exit

James and Mount have come up through the Chelsea ranks together for more than 15 years now.

The pair have emerged as first-team players and even won the Champions League together in 2021.

In fact, Mount is the player James has played with the most in his career; 157 times according to Transfermarkt, 50 more games than the next player.

Mount leaving Chelsea would be tough for James to take and he has now commented on the situation.

James is at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona this weekend and has been asked by Sky Sports about Mount and his potential move to United.

“If he goes, everyone will be sad to see him go,” said James in a fairly blunt but heartfelt message about Mount.

The 24-year-old is a popular figure within the Chelsea squad and whilst fans have mixed opinions about him, Mount’s exit would certainly cause some sadness at Cobham.
