Manchester United are in talks to sign Genoa defender Radu Dragusin ahead of a move in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been linked with Genoa defender Radu Dragusin before as they were linked with the Romanian alongside a host of other top clubs.

United will surely be in the market for a new central defender as Raphael Varane’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain as the Frenchman has been linked with a move to Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have done well for the Red Devils in recent times but a new defensive partner for Lisandro Martinez, once he returns from injury, will surely be a priority going into the summer transfer window.

Dragusin talks

According to a report from Pro Sport, a Romanian outlet, the Red Devils are showing concrete interest in the defender and have ‘launched the operation’ to sign him.

ProSport states the English club are willing to make a ‘significant financial effort’ to bring Drăgușin to Old Trafford. They add their source have informed them the talks are being held for a potential deal in January.

Genoa are seeking around €30 million (£25.9 million) for the Romanian defender who was formerly at Juventus before being sent out on loan to Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa.

Two weeks ago, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Romanian defender would sign a new contract with the Italian side as Newcastle United were interested in his services ahead of a move in 2024.

United move is agent-talk

It’s not a new phenomenon for United to be linked with a move for a player when the Old Trafford club has little to no interest in that player whatsoever.

Despite how promising Dragusin looks for the Italian side, his agent Florin Manea has openly spoken about his meetings with ‘important’ meetings with clubs.

“I have been in London for quite some time and I have almost weekly meetings with important teams,” said Manea, as quoted by Fanatik.

This would seem that the agent is doing his best to get his client out of Genoa and what better way to do this than to throw United’s name into the mix?

For now, this looks to be one rumour that has little to no substance despite how exciting the signing of the 6-foot-3 defender would be for the Red Devils.
