There will be no shortage of options when Manchester United try to sign a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United will be trying to fix an issue that has existed for years at club.
The previous ownership model trusted banking duo Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold with making decisions for United in the transfer window. This saw the club focus on big-name players past their best-before date, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Radamel Falcao.
In recent years, however, we’ve seen United sign younger forwards with the view of long-term development, as seen with Ramus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
However, 38 goals in 33 Premier League games just isn’t good enough, and Ruben Amorim must find a player who can help provide more goals next season.
United are interested in Matheus Cunha, but it is understood that the Brazilian is being viewed as option for one of Amorim’s number 10 roles. That means United will still be in the hunt for a goalscorer to help share the responsibility of making the team a lethal force in attack again.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is on United’s radar, but there’s another young goalscorer in the Bundesliga who could be a priority.
RB Leipzig increase demands for Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko has been linked with Manchester United for a long time, even though he is only 21-years-old.
The Slovenia international made a name for himself at RB Salzburg before initially attracting interest from United. The striker decided to join RB Leipzig in 2023 when Erik ten Hag opted to sign Hojlund instead.
It is understood that United approached Sesko last year, but he chose to stay with Leipzig and has hit 20 goals and six assists in 41 appearances this season.
Recent reports suggest that United director of recruitment Christopher Vivell was in the stands to watch Sesko as Leipzig took on Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
Vivell was partly responsible for helping Salzburg sign Sesko as a 16-year-old and played a role in signing the striker for Leipzig.
Now, it is claimed that Leipzig have slapped a new price tag on Sesko.
According to Bild, Leipzig have set up an £86 million price tag on the player’s head.
This means United will be asked to pay a premium to secure the Slovenia international’s services.
What’s next for Benjamin Sesko?
With Vivell keeping a close eye on Sesko, the Leipzig striker will be focused on ending the season strongly to attract the biggest clubs in the summer.
Sesko developed his game at Leipzig and could leave this summer as a far superior player.
Leipzig are fourth in the Bundesliga and they will want to avoid slipping further down the table. They face third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Frankfurt vs Leipzig is a fixture that should attract interest from United fans since it will be Sesko take on Ekitike.
A strong end to the season could see United force their hand with an offer for Sesko.
