Rasmus Hojlund is a player who has been linked with a move to Manchester United already ahead of the summer transfer window.

Danish outlet Tipsbladet have reported United’s interest and claim that Juventus, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Napoli are tracking him too.

So what do Manchester United fans need to know about the potential signing?

The Danish forward currently turns out for Atalanta, who United faced in the group stage of last season’s Champions League.

He has 13 goals and five assists from 29 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit this season, as per Transfermarkt.

Hojlund only joined Atalanta in the summer but has wasted no time in impressing with the Italian club, averaging 1.7 shots per game as per WhoScored.

He has only just turned 20 and has a long-term contract at Atalanta until 2027, which may make signing him hard, with the report saying United would have plenty of work to do to get him.

What they say

Fabrizio Romano wrote for CaughtOffside on Substack: “Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with a move to Arsenal by various outlets.

“For sure, Hojlund wants to play, not be on the bench. I’m told he could stay at Atalanta for one more year.”

Christian Ilzer, who worked with Hojlund at Sturm Graz in Austria, shared a story of how the young striker once compared himself to Cristiano Ronaldo.

He told Cronache di Spogliatoio: “One year ago, he (Hojlund) defeated Tirol on his own with two wonderful goals. Then he goes to the mixed area and says he looks like Erling Haaland; his model and reference together with Cristiano Ronaldo.”

“Hojlund has always been a self-confident boy. He even seems cocky if you don’t know him. He has flair, speed and an above-average footballing intelligence. Someone with his qualities must aspire to become one of the best in the world.”

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini told Football Italia recently: “He has very similar characteristics to Haaland, not just his face. He is so quick, he’s under 11 seconds over 100m and that’s not even trying very hard.

“Considering his height, he has a low centre of gravity and can move his legs very fast. I am convinced he’ll have a great career, he just gets stronger every day.”

And he called the striker ‘extraordinary’ after a 2-1 win over Bologna in January when he scored the winning goal.

It seems clear that Hojlund is a striker with a bright future, so it makes sense that United would consider him as they embark on a summer where they need at least one new forward.
