PSV Eindhoven have a ready made list of replacements for Cody Gakpo‘s successor, reports NOS.

Gakpo is Manchester United’s top transfer target for January with The Telegraph reporting the club are lining up a £43.1 million bid.

The Dutch side recognise keeping Gakpo will be difficult after his World Cup displays, even though they managed to hold onto him in the summer.

United’s need for a goalscorer has recently been accelerated by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club.

Cody Gakpo successor

NOS reports PSV have a list of replacements for Gakpo at hand, despite the club currently searching for a new technical director.

PSV’s list of successors for Gakpo was prepared in the summer, and they are ready to move if required.

Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, admits he is prepared to lose Gakpo, even though he would like the forward to stay.

Van Nistelrooy said: “I will do everything I can to stretch it for another six months. We already did that this summer by keeping him. That will now become even more difficult.

“If there are amounts and clubs that the player can no longer say no to, his feeling… Then you come into a situation where that can happen. We take that into account.”

Gakpo is PSV’s top scorer and was the Netherlands’ top scorer at the World Cup.

The Mirror reports Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has already been in contact with Gakpo, to tell him he views him as his ideal successor to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gakpo can play in multiple forward roles, scoring and creating goals, and would be a big asset to United, with the club looking to kick on in the second half of the season.
