President claims Man Utd striker target has now received £165,000-a-week offer

Manchester United are thought to be keen on Porto striker Mehdi Taremi and he has now received major contract offers.

United splashed the cash on a new striker over the summer as Rasmus Hojlund arrived in a big-money move from Atalanta.

Hojlund has shown big potential so far, especially in Champions League action, but he certainly needs more support.

Signing an experienced striker to aid Hojlund’s development would be ideal and United could go for Porto hitman Mehdi Taremi.

Iranian news outlet IMNA reported over the summer that United were showing a keen interest in Taremi.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola claimed in September that United had been scouting a mystery Porto player – and that could be Taremi.

Taremi is out of contract at the end of the season and could be a bargain signing for United in January.

The 31-year-old scored twice against England at the World Cup this time a year ago, and has been a goal machine for Porto.

83 goals and 52 assists in 163 games for Porto is a sensational record with Taremi proving both his goalscoring and his creative qualities.

Taremi receiving exciting offers

Taremi may not set pulses racing in the United fanbase, but he is experienced and won’t break the bank given his contact situation.

Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has now been quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying that Taremi has big offers on the table.

Da Costa claims that Taremi is being offered huge deals worth €10million-a-year – around £165,000-a-week.

Porto just can’t match that kind of money and United may well be one of the clubs offering Taremi big wages to leave Portugal.

“He has received €10m per year salary offers from other clubs… it’s impossible to match that,” said Da Costa. “AC Milan came up last summer with ridiculous proposals that weren’t even worth talking about,” he added.

Other clubs are keen but it’s hard to see many non-Premier League clubs offering those kind of wages right now.

Maybe there are offers from Saudi Arabian sides but if United do want Taremi, a deal seems to be a real possibility in January.
