Manchester United are set to sign Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund with Brentford boss Thomas Frank now offering his reaction.

United have been desperate to land a new striker this summer with a host of names linked.

The top name in the mix in recent weeks has been Hojlund though – and United appear to be closing in.

The Athletic report that United have now agreed a deal to sign Hojlund in a big-money move.

United will allegedly pay a fixed fee of €75million (£64.5million) plus €10million (£8.6million) in add-ons.

That takes the potential total deal to around £73million, with United committing a huge fee.

Manchester United banking on Rasmus Hojlund potential

This looks like an astronomical fee for a striker who scored just nine league goals last season.

Hojlund has huge potential though and United will be looking for him to fulfil it at Old Trafford.

It’s only a year ago that the Dane was playing for Sturm Graz over in Austria.

The 20-year-old has shown very promising signs though, possessing the pace and power to get in behind defences.

Ten Hag loved to play with a big, physical forward in Sebastien Haller at both Ajax and Utrecht.

Hojlund isn’t a rounded target man but that presence in the final third seems to really appeal to Ten Hag.

There have been comparisons to Erling Haaland; both Scandinavian, both left-footed, both dangerous running in behind.

Hojlund has a long way to go before reaching Haaland’s level but United will hope to see him develop into that kind of goalscorer.

Thomas Frank comments on Rasmus Hojlund move

Hojlund’s imminent move means another Danish player in the Premier League.

The likes of Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen, Mathias Jorgensen, Mikkel Damsgaard and Mads Roerslev are all Premier League regulars with Brentford.

They feature under a Danish boss in Thomas Frank, so they will all be familiar with Hojlund and his potential – some have even featured alongside him for Denmark.

Frank has now been asked about Hojlund as he prepares to see another Dane head to the Premier League.

CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has quoted Frank as saying that he thinks this move is ‘fantastic’ for Hojlund.

Frank noted that whilst he hasn’t coached Hojlund, he is well aware of his talent having spoken to people who know him.

Frank did though admit that it’s a ‘big price tag’ that United are paying for Hojlund and hopes the Dane lives up to the hype.

“I think it’s fantastic for Rasmus,” said Frank. “I haven’t coached him personally but I know people who have and he’s been with the national team. I hope he will do very well at Manchester United. It’s a big price tag,” he added.
