Brentford boss Thomas Frank has celebrated after securing the signing of former Manchester United left back Sergio Reguilon.
United have been quiet in terms of incomings this month, but we have seen a number of departures from Old Trafford.
Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez have all moved out on loan with no first-team plans for the quartet.
We also saw United send one loanee packing as Sergio Reguilon’s loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur came to an end.
United pounced to sign Reguilon on loan back on deadline day, but included a break clause to pave the way for a January departure.
Sergio Reguilon signs for Brentford after Manchester United exit
The Spaniard was only brought in as cover for the injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Reguilon started just four Premier League games for United and it says a lot that he has been sent back to Spurs even with Shaw and Malacia unavailable right now.
Tottenham didn’t really want Reguilon back either; he has no future under Ange Postecoglou, so Spurs made him available for loan again.
Reguilon has now made another move, joining Brenford on loan for the rest of the season.
Bees boss Thomas Frank is ecstatic, believing that Brentford have made a ‘very good’ signing to fill in for the injured Rico Henry.
Frank added that Brentford really ‘need’ Reguilon and his experience at Premier League level makes him the ideal signing for the Bees.
“This is a very good signing for us. We’ve been talking for a while about how we need a good left-back, and we managed to get a very good left-back. I’m very pleased with the job that Phil Giles and Lee Dykes have done,” said Frank.
“Sergio is a perfect fit for us: a proven Premier League player in every aspect. He fits what we want. He’s very offensive, has a very good cross and a very good left foot. He’s got the experience we need to complement the rest of the squad and he’s a good character. We need him, but I also think he needs us to show how good a footballer he is. I’m convinced that this will be a positive partnership,” he added.

Could Reguilon play against Manchester United?
Reguilon hasn’t been in contention for Spurs since his return as even one appearance would have ruled out another move elsewhere due to the three-club rule.
Instead, Reguilon is now free to join Spurs and immediately get down to work at Brentford.
This means that Reguilon could actually face United in March as Brentford host Erik ten Hag’s side in West London.
Brentford have gone through quite the injury crisis this season and Reguilon will have to avoid that curse if he is to face United and attempt to show Ten Hag what he is missing.
United wasn’t to be Reguilon’s long-term home but maybe Brentford can prove to be a more permanent home for the former Real Madrid left back.
