Manchester United are in talks with Bayern Munich over the sale of Scott McTominay with Thomas Tuchel believed to be a fan of the 25-year-old midfielder according to German reports.

McTominay has seen his chances at Old Trafford so far this season limited but it seemed like he might get some game time following the injury to Mason Mount.

However, Erik ten Hag decided that the best option was Christian Eriksen and the midfielder started alongside Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the rather hectic 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

McTominay did come on as a second-half substitute but his future seems to be away from United.

What does the report say

The report in the German outlet BILD says that the German champions are very interested in the United midfielder and ‘want to get things moving’ in regard to the deal being completed.

As well as this, there are ‘exciting indications’, according to BILD, that a deal will eventually get done. United are willing to negotiate on their valuation of the Scotsman, which is believed to be in the region of £35-40 million.

There seems to be a semblance of truth in the reports as the most noise is coming from outlets in Germany. If these stories were wide of the mark, then sources in the UK would have probably denied there was anything in the German side’s interest.

Who will United target as a replacement

Sofyan Amrabat has been the prime target for a midfield signing but another, more expensive, midfielder may well come into the equation if United did receive around £30 million for the midfielder.

Amadou Onana, who has been linked to United by The Guardian, may well come into consideration. The Toffees value the Belgian at around £50 million according to the same report.

Onana would represent a huge midfield upgrade for Erik ten Hag, both physically and technically. The player would reportedly be keen on the move, although whether relegation battling Everton would sanction the departure so late in the window remains to be seen.
