One major problem with the Bryan Mbeumo move, with two more Man Utd stars impacted

Excitement is growing at Manchester United because it looks like the football club are getting their transfers done early this summer.

Manchester United announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves this week to kick-start their summer transfer window with an exciting addition.

Ruben Amorim is looking to address United’s problem in front of the goal after watching his side struggle since becoming head coach in November.

Rasmus Hojlund failed to lead the line, and it doesn’t look like Joshua Zirkzee is the player to provide enough goals in a side looking to compete for Premier League titles.

That explains why there has thus far been an emphasis on attacking signings this summer.

With Cunha already a United player, Ineos are moving quickly to identify their next target, and it’s a player with invaluable Premier League experience, having scored 20 goals in the top-flight for Brentford last term.

One disadvantage from potential Bryan Mbeumo transfer

Reports emerged on Monday evening that Bryan Mbeumo wants to join Manchester United.

It is understood that talks have yet to take place between the clubs but formal discussions are now expected to proceed over the coming days or weeks.

The Brentford forward was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, recording 28 goal contributions, which is why Ineos are keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

Nobody can deny Mbeumo’s talents and how he has established himself in the Premier League as one of the most lethal forwards around, but there is one disadvantage that would come with such a signing.

Mbeumo’s commitment to Cameroon and the African Cup of Nations means he would miss part of the 2025/26 season because he will be away on international duty.

This means United will miss Mbeumo for up to six weeks every two years.

Former United manager Jose Mourinho argued that big clubs shouldn’t think twice about signing African players, even though they would be absent for a short period every two years.

It’s not a completely new situation for United, but Mbeumo is a player who could become relied upon, making that December to January period perhaps more challenging.

Manchester United pair set for AFCON

This raises the argument that no matter what happens with Andre Onana and his future at United, the Red Devils must sign a new keeper to at least compete for the first-choice role.

Altay Bayindir could leave Old Trafford this summer, so United will need to rely on a new keeper one way or another when the AFCON takes place, with Onana likely to represent Cameroon.

Another member of the United first-team who will be playing at AFCON is Ivory Coast star Amad Diallo.

The winger has established himself as a star under Amorim and he will be aiming to build on that next term.
