Manchester United have been linked with a move for Tottenham’s Micky Van de Ven, but his injury record should make any club wary of overspending on the Netherlands international.
There is a feeling that Manchester United are not watching Micky Van de Ven carefully amid claims Ineos want to sign a new centre-back in the summer.
The need to sign another centre-back is undeniable, given Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez’s track record with injuries, but the last thing United needs is another injury-prone defender added into the mix.
Harry Maguire has signed a new contract, but at the age of 33, he cannot be expected to play every match next season when United hope to be competing in the Champions League.

Micky Van de Ven’s hamstrings should be a concern for Man Utd
Tottenham’s Van de Ven is no stranger to the treatment room.
The last thing United need is to spend big on a centre-back with a troubled past in terms of injuries.
Van de Ven suffered one hamstring injury during his time at Wolfsburg, keeping him out of action for 77 days, but he has had a series of similar issues since joining Tottenham in 2023.
His first hamstring injury at Tottenham kept him out of action for 11 matches, but Van de Ven has since suffered three more hamstring injuries.
That doesn’t include thigh problems and a knee injury sustained by Van de Ven during a short spell at Tottenham.
Van de Ven has his positives in terms of pace, but United could spend their money on a much better option, at least with a track record of being available.
When fit, Van de Ven is a vital starter for Tottenham, but his injury record has prevented him from becoming one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League.
