Michael Carrick hails Man Utd transfer target Elliot Anderson ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Michael Carrick spoke highly of Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson ahead of Manchester United’s final home game of the 2025/26 season.

Manchester United can conclude their Old Trafford campaign in style, but that will take a convincing display as well as three points.

The Red Devils go into the game following a scoreless draw with Sunderland last week. Michael Carrick’s side need just one point to secure third place in the Premier League, thanks to Aston Villa’s 4-2 win over Liverpool.

Back in November, United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest, so this meeting will be a chance to make amends for dropping two points.

Michael Carrick impressed by Elliot Anderson

Ahead of Nottingham Forest’s trip to Old Trafford this weekend, the journalists took the chance to ask Carrick about his thoughts on United-linked Elliot Anderson.

It is understood that Anderson is among United’s top targets, but they face stiff competition from Man City for the England international’s signature.

Speaking at his press conference, Carrick was asked whether he had been impressed by Anderson’s performance for Forest this season.

“Yeah, he’s done well,” Carrick said.

“I think, he’s a big part of their team. I think he offers so much and they’ve got a really talented team and then a dangerous team. So they’ve had a good season to get to the [Europa League] semi-finals and just fall short. You can see, obviously, he’s an important part of their team.”

The game will come as an audition for Anderson, although United have clearly seen enough to make him one of their priority targets this summer.

According to ESPN, Forest are demanding £120m for Anderson’s signature, which would see United break their transfer record if a deal were to materialise.

At the age of 23, Anderson appears to have a bright future in the game. It remains to be seen if that will be at Old Trafford, the Etihad Stadium or elsewhere.

All eyes will be on him at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Morgan Gibbs-White could return to face Man Utd

After sustaining a facial injury, Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White missed recent matches and remains a doubt going into the weekend.

Gibbs-White returned to training during the week, but is having to acclimatise to playing with a mask.

Forest manager Vitor Pereira told reporters: “He started today [Thursday], to work with the team. Let’s see, with a mask.

“You know, it’s strange when we use the mask, but in the end I spoke with him, said ‘I’m okay, I’m okay with the mask, no problem’. We’ll see if he’s ready of his conditions for the next game.”
