Michael Carrick is pushing to put his first stamp on the Manchester United squad by pushing for a reunion with a jack-of-all-trades player.
Manchester United decided to go all-in on Michael Carrick after he guided the club into Champions League places.
Ineos now need to back him so he can continue the momentum gained from the season just finished.
A good way to do that is to support him on a player he’s pushing for who he has already worked with. He can ‘do everything’.

Michael Carrick pushing for Hayden Hackney reunion
There were doubts over Carrick’s ability to transition from managing Middlesbrough to Man Utd, but he vastly improved players there as well.
Hayden Hackney stands as one of his biggest success stories, and he’s a player who has continued his rise after his departure as well.
Now, as per The Northern Echo, Carrick is pushing United for a reunion with Hackney, believing that Man Utd should be at the front of the queue when Hackney leaves.
Middlesbrough’s failure to get promoted means Hackney is certain to leave, and Carrick thinks he can unlock another level in him and get him up to speed for playing for Man Utd.
Hackney’s links to United are not recent, with the club tracking him from before Carrick was in charge.
His appointment only accelerated the links, and now reliable reports suggest the same feels like they will build up to an eventual transfer.
Hackney can ‘do everything’ but he’ll need time at Man Utd
For Man Utd fans who are dreaming of signing players like Elliot Anderson or Aurelien Tchouameni, this update will be anti-climactic.
Should Manchester United be aiming higher than Hayden Hackney?
OR is he the perfect squad depth signing to compete in multiple competitions 🏆
However, Hackney shouldn’t be written off just because of his lower profile compared to the aforementioned names.
Hackney has been called a player who can ‘do everything’ by his current manager, Kim Hellberg, so impressed was he with the midfielder.
He said: “He’s a fantastic player and is good at everything. I think he could play in every position on the pitch and do it brilliantly. Everyone can see he’s a brilliant player, but everything around that has impressed me so much. He wants happiness and success for Boro and works so hard for that.”
United would clearly be getting a well-rounded player capable of unlocking multiple tactical options for Carrick.
Having said that, the jump from Middlesbrough to United is still huge, so fans need to be patient with him if he does arrive.
In terms of playing style, he will probably come to be Mainoo’s backup, for starters, which is a perfectly fine gap to fill in the current midfield.
He has the potential to grow into the role and make United look like geniuses if he does. If he doesn’t, then it’s simply a low-cost punt like Daniel James was.
They made a profit on James, and Hackney could be similar. Excitement comes from Carrick knowing exactly how to use him.
