Manchester United are still in with a chance of signing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, despite talks stalling.

After talks with Chelsea hit a dead end due to differing valuations, Manchester United are currently considering alternatives to Mason Mount.

The Red Devils’ last bid of £55 million was rejected, with Chelsea demanding £65 million. It’s still possible both sides meet in the middle. 90Min report the Blues would be prepared to compromise at £60 million.

The Telegraph report Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino would prefer the situation to be resolved before the end of the month.

Mason Mount latest

Chelsea are embarking on a clearout at present, with new manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to ship out all wantaway players before July 1, when he begins work.

The Telegraph report Pochettino has not yet met with Mason Mount, although do suggest that Mount won’t go on striker if a deal is not done.

The report even suggests Mount could go on Chelsea’s pre-season tour if a deal is not struck in time before they fly out on July 17.

But unlike last season when going on the pre-season tour proved to be an absolute cut-off in Manchester United’s failed pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, the Mount scenario could be different.

This is because unlike last year when Manchester United flew to Asia, and Barcelona flew in the different direction to the USA; Manchester United and Chelsea are both heading Stateside this summer.

Both being in America makes it less disruptive from Mount to hop from one camp to another, allowing negotiations to drag on into late July, if necessary – although clearly everybody concerned hopes they don’t.

Pochettino’s attitude is best for all here. It is a cleaner break for club and player, for Mount to be gone before he starts.

If he stays, then he will have to look at re-integrating him, in the full knowledge the midfielder has ‘100 per cent agreed’ personal terms with Manchster United, reports Fabrizio Romano.
