Manchester United’s transfer window success might hinge on whether they manage to move on Marcus Rashford and the player has just dropped a telling hint about his future.

In normal circumstances, Marcus Rashford’s future would be a done deal by now. He’s impressed many at Aston Villa on loan and the club holds a buy option.

However, Rashford’s own ambitions, combined with his healthy wage packet and uncertainty over Villa’s UCL status throw the move in doubt.

Rashford’s time at Old Trafford still looks to be over, however, which is why he’s making telling moves ahead of a pivotal transfer window to secure his own future.

Marcus Rashford transfer plans

Rashford made it a point to stress to everyone that he had plenty of offers in January but chose to move to Aston Villa, a claim that doesn’t sound so believable anymore.

That is because Rashford has had his eyes set on a “bigger” club ever since he rediscovered some of that swagger that once made him a feared attacker at Man Utd.

It has previously been reported that Rashford’s dream move is to Spain, and play for Barcelona at Nou Camp.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo now reports that Rashford has started taking first steps towards making that dream a reality by making a proactive move.

The report states that Rashford has enlisted the help of Pini Zahavi, the super agent with close ties to Barcelona, in an effort to accelerate their interest.

Zahavi represents Robert Lewandowski and is also manager Hansi Flick’s agent, among others.

Getting Zahavi on board doesn’t guarantee a move to Barcelona but the player is at least making active efforts and having Zahavi’s contacts by his side won’t do his prospects of a move any harm.

Breaking down Marcus Rashford to Barcelona move

The report adds that the interest is mutual, with Rashford even willing to lower his wages to facilitate the move as Barcelona’s financial condition is well known to everyone.

However, in this deal where the player and the buying club are happy, the club that stands to lose the most is Man Utd, because the report states that Barcelona would insist on a loan move.

United are unlikely to agree to another loan move, especially without a mandatory buy clause, because with every year, the contract of Rashford inches closer to completion.

Moreover, his value is at a high right now and there’s no guarantee that he will replicate his Villa form for Barcelona, where the competition for places and pressure is incomparable to Villa Park.

In the worst-case scenario, United will be stuck with a player at the end of the 2025/26 season who will have no place at Man Utd, sent back by Barcelona, and still earning close to £300k/week.

This summer is the one to cash out permanently. Be it to Barcelona or otherwise.
