Marco Verratti has revealed one of the reasons he didn’t join Manchester United in the summer.
The Italian wizard was available to sign from PSG, with United sniffing around at his signature. It was reported by The Guardian that United were definitely interested in the World Cup winner.
It was reported that the deal would’ve been around £51m, and quite frankly, United did not have that money to spend.
Instead, he headed to the Qatari league. Since his move, he’s explained one of the reasons why he didn’t end up at Old Trafford.

Why Verratti couldn’t join Manchester United
In Caught Offside‘s Fabrizio Romano daily briefing, it was stated one of the reasons why Verratti made the surprising move to the Qatari league and ultimately didn’t join United.
Marco Verratti said: “I didn’t want to go to another team in Europe where I could face PSG. I wanted this to be my last team. I will live in Paris all my life. My family, my children, stayed here. When I have free days, I come back just to stay in Paris!”
Fair enough from the Italian. He’s clearly got a dedicated affiliation to the club, and any potential risk of facing his beloved side would’ve been too much, so he decided to go to a team where there is no probability of facing Les Parisiens.
How hard did United push for Verratti
It’s hard to tell, as United are always linked with every player under the sun.
However, what’s undoubted is the monumental effect he would have had at Old Trafford. Even at the age of 30, he’s still one of the greatest midfielders in world football.
He’s lauded by his peers. “I knew Verratti was an excellent player, but I didn’t realise he was so spectacular,” Neymar said after joining PSG and playing with him.
“He’s a genius. He’s one of the best midfielders I’ve played with, along with Xavi Hernandez and Iniesta.”
United would’ve been lucky to have him – but quite frankly, they didn’t have a spare £50m lying around at that point of the window… nor would he have joined anyway!
