Manchester United are set to clinch the long-awaited signing of Uruguay international midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Every summer there is a transfer saga which tests the patience of Manchester United supporters.

And while the proposed deal for Manuel Ugarte has rarely seemed in true jeopardy, the long-drawn out process has taken far longer than was preferable.

Manuel Ugarte to United was shaping up as a deal which might take until the transfer deadline to conclude. Now there is hope it may be done a lot sooner.

Manuel Ugarte latest

Big steps in Manuel Ugarte’s transfer to Manchester United could be taken shortly, according to ESPN Uruguay.

The outlet claim it is a ‘fact’ Ugarte will soon be a Manchester United player, bringing an abrupt end to his time with Paris Saint-Germain.

The report states: “The 23-year-old Uruguayan will travel to England in the next few hours to join the Red Devils.”

United fans will be on the lookout for possible sightings of Ugarte, who has not featured in either of PSG’s matchday squads to start the season.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are in need of reinforcements in midfield after a mixed start to the Premier League season.

Ugarte brings energy to United’s midfield

Manuel Ugarte’s style of play is just what Manchester United need to offset the decline Casemiro displayed last season.

Ugarte will help young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, and play a key role in shielding a defence which faced too many shots last season.

United agreed personal terms with Ugarte back in July, to the excitement of supporters, but the clubs have struggled to agree a fee.

United are attempting to comply with PSR, while significant progress has been made on player sales since, the upcoming exit of Scott McTominay appears to have helped smooth this one along.
