Manchester United willing to offer £83m superstar £150k-a-week, claim Italian press

With Ruben Amorim at the helm these days, very few under contract Manchester United can really be considered ‘safe’ from the threat of the axe.

A new manager and a new formation brings with it new challenges for these underperforming Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim wants Diogo Dalot to play a very different role than he did under Erik ten Hag. Whether or not he can adapt to these demands could to be the deciding factor in how heavily Manchester United pursue wing-backs in future transfer windows.

Christian Eriksen is reportedly leaving Man United when his contract expires. That flat performance during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town did little to suggest he can thrive in Amorim’s high-paced style.

A talented but inconsistent frontline, meanwhile, feels like the biggest issue for Ruben Amorim to fix. Gary Neville has concerns over Marcus Rashford both as a centre-forward – he scored the opener at Portman Road but struggled thereafter – and as one of the two withdrawn attackers in behind.

Alejandro Garnacho’s decision-making again left a lot to be desired in East Anglia. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, meanwhile, have just two Premier League goals between them in 2024/25.

So reports suggesting that Manchester United could go big on Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in 2025 certainly have an air of believability about them.

Manchester United could offer Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia a big pay rise

Kvaratskhelia has been linked with Man United on and off over the last 18 months or so.

Now, with the snake-hipped Georgia international heading towards the final two years of his contract at Serie A challengers Napoli, next summer feels like a decisive one in Kvaratskhelia’s future.

According to Sport Mediaset, Man United are the most ‘serious’ of Kvaratskhelia’s Premier League-based suitors. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to offer £7.5 million-a-year plus bonuses too.

A paypacket well in excess of the one Napoli are putting forward, but far removed from the superstar wages United have stumped up in the past.

Kvaratskhelia, if he was to accept a £150,000-a-week wage at Old Trafford, would still earn considerably less than Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and even Antony.

Sport Mediaset add that, with negotiations struggling to take flight at Napoli, Partenopei president Aurelio de Laurentiis is reluctant to budge on his offer of £96,000-a-week.

So it is not difficult to imagine Kvaratskhelia, who was named Serie A’s Player of the Year when Napoli won the Scudetto back in 2023, receiving a considerable pay rise at any of the clubs looking to lure him away from the Italian giants.

Kvaratskhelia has been compared to Old Trafford icon George Best

The reported transfer fee is likely to prove a far bigger obstacle to the hopes of Manchester United and co. Napoli want £83 million.

And while Ineos are clearly not afraid of putting their hand in their pockets, Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox and those operating behind the scenes at Old Trafford would likely have to bring out some pretty substantial sales before United can drop 100 million euros on Kvaratskhelia.

If the rumours are true, meanwhile, and Man United really are interested, it is the aforementioned Marcus Rashford who may have the most to lose from Kvaratskhelia’s arrival. The twinkle-toed Tibilisi-born winger is at his most effective, after all, in the left-sided role that Rashford has made his own at Old Trafford.

Comparisons have already been drawn, meanwhile, between Kvaratskhelia and one of the greatest names in Man United’s history.

Forget George Best, are we entering the era of ‘Georgian Best’?

The goal from Kvaratskhelia is worthy of Maradona,” former Italy striker Christian Vieri said after the Napoli talisman’s stunning solo effort against Atalanta last year, via Calcio Napoli.

“The goal he scored is a crazy stuff! If he goes to Manchester United, George Best’s times [can] come back. Kvaratskhelia is the same.”
