Manchester United have been linked with Joao Felix for a number of seasons now and it seemed like they were going to make their move last summer.

Manchester United reportedly made a stunning £116 million offer for Felix according to Marca during a whirlwind few days toward the end of the transfer window back in the summer of 2022.

The former Benfica man decided to join Chelsea in January under Graham Potter but was sent off against Fulham in his debut game.

After a decent loan spell in the Premier League and United’s lack of attacking options, there were tentative links between the Portuguese forward and Erik ten Hag’s side.

However, after signing Rasmus Hojlund, those rumours quickly died down and the 23-year-old moved to Barcelona.

Felix and United

Well, according to former Atletico Madrid winger Paulo Futre, who spoke to CADENA SER, who has close links with Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes, the forward had been offered to the Red Devils.

Futre was worried due to the forward’s rather public admiration of Barcelona and declaring he wanted to join the club.

“We argued on the phone and he told me that he had spoken to Manchester United,” Futre revealed. I verified what he told me because I have friends and it was true.”

However, it seemed United didn’t want the forward and rejected the proposition.

Felix could have made impact

The Portuguese forward showed glimpses of his talent whilst at Stamford Bridge and has started very well at Barcelona with 5 G/A already this season.

The versatile attacker may well have been a good option for United but the wages and the transfer fee involved may well have been prohibitive for the Red Devils.

Felix is also another player who doesn’t have a set position. He can play upfront, left or right, or even behind the striker.

Felix may well have been a decent bench option and one who could have influenced games but, ultimately, United made the right choice not to pursue a deal.
