Manchester United want ‘one of the best in the world’ with replacement ready

Manchester United target Dominik Livakovic is among ‘the best goalkeepers in the world’ but one Dinamo Zagreb star is ready to replace him should the Croatia international depart for the Premier League.

Ivan Nevistic is under no illusions about the size of the shoes – or should that be gloves – he will have to inherit should Livakovic exit for Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

According to Sportske Jutarnji, Man United are ‘ready’ to trigger the £9 million release clause in Livakovic’s contract.

A new goalkeeper is high on Erik ten Hag’s summer wishlist. While David de Gea appears set to sign another contract – albeit on reduced terms – United still want another option. One capable of competing with, or potentially even replacing, the long-serving Spaniard.

“We have one of the best goalkeepers. Not only in Croatia, but the world,” Dinamo Zagreb team-mate Ivan Nevistic tells Sportske Novosti.

“I have the opportunity to learn a lot from (him). I use it as best I can.”

Will Manchester United sign Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic

Livakovic was outstanding as Croatia reached the semi-finals of the Qatar World Cup, his penalty shoot-out heroics helping knock out both Brazil and Japan. Not including those shoot-out victories, Transfermakrt report that Livakovic has saved 14 spot-kicks in his career.

Clearly, this is one of his strengths. Which is something that cannot really be said of David de Gea; the Spaniard relying on Solly March ballooning one over the bar during last week’s FA Cup semi-final triumph over Brighton.

“With our goalkeepers, there is a specific situation regarding transfers,” Nevistic adds of Livakovic, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

“I work with the best goalkeepers, with the best team in Croatia. I’m improving day by day. In my head, I am ready, hungry for new challenges and temptations. And I believe that I will prove it to everyone as soon as I get the chance.

“I am aware that with the eventual departure of Livakovic, I can get a chance to prove myself!,” Dinamo’s second-choice adds with a laugh. “But I certainly don’t ask for (him to leave) every day.

“Absolutely (I am ready to replace Livakovic)! I want games and minutes. I want to show on the field that I deserve it, and above all prove that I can be counted on.”
