Manchester United think £75m England star is ideal signing

Manchester United remain interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi – but he will cost a huge £75million fee.

United may well be in the market for another centre back come the end of the season.

Harry Maguire’s long-term future remains unclear whilst Victor Lindelof could still be sold even if United take up an option on his contract.

Add in concerns over Raphael Varane’s durability and United are expected to bring in another centre back come the summer.

The Manchester Evening News highlighted in September that United want to add another ‘athletic defender’ to compete with Varane – and the new rumours line up with that.

Manchester United keen on Marc Guehi

TEAMtalk now claim that United have a very ‘genuine’ interest in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

It’s suggested that United have identified Guehi as the ‘ideal’ addition to Erik ten Hag’s back line, but there are more than a few problems.

Firstly, Guehi has other suitors; Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were keen over the summer whilst Newcastle United are now interested.

The report also highlights that Palace want an even higher fee for Guehi than the £50million United paid to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Palace in 2019.

Palace’s asking price is expected to be in the region of £75million, meaning United can’t make a move until the end of the season with no such January spending planned.

Guehi praised Harry Maguire just days ago

United may well fancy landing Guehi as a replacement for Harry Maguire moving forward.

Yet it seems that Guehi has bags of respect for Maguire from their time together in the England national team setup.

Guehi was quoted just a few days ago as saying that he thinks Maguire is a ‘top professional’ and a ‘great guy’ whilst praising his leadership role in the England team.

Guehi moved to hail Maguire, believing that people had quickly forgotten how good the United centre back can be for club and country.

The 23-year-old could yet follow in Maguire’s footsteps with a move to Old Trafford but United will seemingly have to wait – and save up some cash – to make a deal happen.
