Manchester United want Odysseas Vlachodimos and the Benfica stopper appears to be at odds with his own manager.

United fans have been desperate to see another midfielder arrive at Old Trafford before the transfer deadline.

However, another goalkeeper appears to be a more pressing matter right now.

Talks are underway for Dean Henderson to leave United for Crystal Palace, leaving Erik ten Hag without proven competition for Andre Onana.

Tom Heaton seemingly isn’t being considered for that number two role, leaving United to go back to the market again.

Manchester United want Odysseas Vlachodimos

Fabrizio Romano claims that United have now made Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos a key target.

Romano claims that United are ‘exploring’ a move for Vlachodimos with a Benfica departure ‘expected’.

Vlachodimos is no stranger to the United rumour mill.

Romano reported last summer that Vlachodimos was being targeted by United as competition for David De Gea.

Fast forward almost a year to the day and United are back in for Vlachodimos – and a deal seems more likely this time around.

Vlachodimos unhappy at Benfica

Portuguese newspaper Record report that Vlachodimos has had a row with Benfica boss Roger Schmidt.

It’s stated that Vlachodimos spoke to Schmidt on Saturday and voiced his displeasure with the Benfica boss.

Schmidt criticised Vlachodimos for his performance in the 3-2 defeat at Boavista last week.

The Greek stopper wasn’t impressed at all and Schmidt responded by leaving him out of the squad Ito face Estrela Amadora.

Samuel Soares started in goal with new signing Anatoliy Trubin on the bench as Schmidt put his foot down.

Vlachodimos is claimed to have gone straight home and didn’t stay in the stadium to watch his Benfica teammates in action.

The report claims that a departure is on the table for Vlachodimos, with United surely his most likely destination.

The 29-year-old seems ready for a new start and it could well come with United before the transfer deadline.
