Manchester United are getting closer to striking an agreement with Chelsea for Mason Mount.
After an initial £40 million bid was rejected, Manchester United have returned with a bid totalling £50 million.
The Athletic report this bid for Mason Mount consists of £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons.
Chelsea are reported to have countered by demanding £60 million plus £5 million to make a total of £65 million.
This itself is somewhat of a climbdown from Chelsea, with The Mail reporting last month they wanted £85 million for the midfielder.
That report had claimed United wanted to pay £55 million, and a fee in that region remains a likely outcome.
The Telegraph reported at the start of the month that Mount has agreed personal terms with Manchester United.
Mount would replace Christian Eriksen in the starting line-up at United, helping the midfield to get younger and more dynamic.
United need to agree a fee for Mount to establish a remaining budget to spend on a goalkeeper and striker.
