Manchester United are now open to January loan offers for defender Brandon Williams when the transfer window opens.

Williams did not play a game before the World Cup but has now recovered from that injury but came on for the last five minutes of Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

He also played in both friendly games in Spain during the World Cup and is building up to full match sharpness again.

ESPN report that now he is back fit that United would be willing to loan Williams out next month, and it remains to be seen who comes in for him.

United open to Williams loan

The report suggests that Axel Tuanzebe is not yet fit enough to consider the prospect of moving yet, as he continues his recovery from injury.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks like he could get an unlikely chance to convince Erik ten Hag at right-back, where Diogo Dalot has also impressed this season.

At left-back, United have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia ahead of Williams, so it is hard to see how he can force his way into the team.

Last season, he was on loan at Norwich, where teammate Adam Idah described him as ‘excellent‘ despite eventually suffering relegation.

Wes Brown recently raised the prospect that a loan could benefit Williams in order to get him some gametime and confidence.

It seems the club are thinking down the same lines as they prepare for Ten Hag’s first mid-season window in charge at Old Trafford.

Wherever Williams goes, he needs to be playing regularly; it would be better to be a Championship mainstay than a Premier League rotation option.

He has done well to battle back from injury and now it is time for him to get his match sharpness to where it needs to be.
