Manchester United’s search for a new centre back could now see Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi become a key target.

Harry Maguire finally looks to be leaving Manchester United after months of rumours.

BBC Sport report that West Ham United have agreed a £30million deal to sign Maguire.

There is still some work to be done but Maguire is keen on joining West Ham and personal terms aren’t expected to be a problem.

The 30-year-old lost the United captaincy this summer and the writing has pretty much been on the wall ever since.

United are happy to let Maguire go but Erik ten Hag and co must now push to sign another defender to replace the England international.

Marc Guehi wanted at Manchester United

The Daily Mail now report that Crystal Palace centre back Marc Guehi is one of four names on United’s wish list to replace Maguire.

The report does though add that United could be priced out of a move for Guehi with Palace wanting big money.

Reports from the London Evening Standard in July suggested that Palace were demanding £50million for Guehi as Chelsea looked to re-sign him.

That price tag is only going to increase the closer we get to the transfer deadline, so this will be a tricky pursuit for United.

Guehi has excelled in his two seasons at Palace having joined from Chelsea back in the summer of 2021.

The 23-year-old is now an England international and whilst taking the next step in his career with United could be appealing, Palace will be in no mood to sell.

Who else is on United’s defensive wish list?

The other names stated by the Mail are Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard.

The price tags on Tapsoba and Guehi are likely to be huge, far in excess of what United are receiving for Maguire.

Both have plenty of time left on their contracts and their clubs aren’t exactly looking to sell.

Todibo continues to be linked with United and may be the most likely signing if the recent rumours are to be believed.

The Frenchman – once compared to Raphael Varane – has got his career back on track with Nice after a tricky spell with Barcelona.

The step-up to United would be big, but Todibo will be desperate to prove himself with a European giant.

Pavard shouldn’t be ruled out though, especially as he is now inside the final year of his Bayern contract.

The Bundesliga giants may well take a knockdown fee for Pavard before he leaves for nothing and his versatility to play at centre back and left back could appeal.

We think Todibo and Pavard are more likely than Guehi and Tapsoba, but United have been getting business done this summer and you just can’t rule out another big signing.
