Manchester United now scouting prolific striker who ‘plays like Robert Lewandowski’, he cost just £20m

Manchester United need to sign a goalscorer – a simple fact illustrated by the club scoring just 13 goals in 13 games in the Premier League.

After spending a combined £100 million on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, the jury is still out on Manchester United’s striker department.

While the duo will get chances to impress under Ruben Amorim, the club’s recruitment department are already doing their due diligence on potential targets.

And one potential target has been put forward, with United looking towards the future.

Victor Boniface situation

Manchester United are paying attention to the situation of Victor Boniface, Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian international striker.

Leverkusen signed Boniface for £20 million from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise, and he went on to help them win the Bundesliga season unbeaten in 2023/24.

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, United are ‘actively scouting’ Boniface with a view to a possible deal next summer.

How good is Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface, 23, has proven to be a bargain for Bayer Leverkusen since his move to the club in summer 2023.

Speaking at the time, Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes explained how he won them over, telling club media: “Victor Boniface has been on our radar for some time. His performance against us absolutely confirmed our positive assessment.

“Victor is a very commanding and difficult to handle centre forward who will be a challenge for every defender with his physicality. In addition, he is also quick and has good technique.”

Boniface became only the second player and first since Erling Haaland to win the Bundesliga’s player of the month and rookie of the month awards last season.

Via the Bundesliga’s profile and comparison, they cite Robert Lewandowski as the striker Boniface plays like.

Boniface is currently out of action with a hamstring injury and is not expected to return until January.

Speaking earlier this season, Xabi Alonso says he wants Boniface to become as good as Didier Drogba, a player he knew from his stint in the Premier League.

Alonso was quoted via Pulse Sports: “He has many qualities that could make him as formidable as Drogba. His strength and the difficulties he creates for defenders are remarkable.

“He’s exceptional in tight spaces and thrives around the box. But he needs to be more assertive in attacking the box when opportunities arise.”
