Manchester United now linked with £35m Brazilian after Kim and Disasi

£35 million Gleison Bremer is the latest centre-half reportedly on Manchester United’s radar with the Red Devils reportedly interested in the Juventus stopper.

It’s difficult to know quite what to make of the reports suggesting that Manchester United could splash out a fee in the region of £40 million for a new, right-sided centre-half.

On one hand, the likely departure of Harry Maguire means a replacement will be required. On the other, until Maguire goes, Erik ten Hag’s priority will remain a centre-forward and an athletic ‘number eight’, most likely Harry Kane and Mason Mount.

In short, don’t be surprised to see a Kim Min-Jae, a Jurrien Timber or an Axel Disasi arrive at Old Trafford. But also don’t be surprised if United opt not to step up their interest until later in the window when – if all goes to plan – Maguire follows the Glazers out the door.

Bremer the latest defender on Manchester United’s radar

United have been watching Napoli’s Kim since late last year. Timber is another long-term target, having worked under Ten Hag at Ajax. L’Equipe, meanwhile, reported that Disasi is closing in on a move to Manchester, though we suspect that the Monaco colossus is merely a contingency plan in case a deal for Kim – the number one centre-half target according to Fabrizio Romano – runs into trouble.

Gleison Bremer can probably be spoken out in similar terms. On United’s wishlist, yes, but not quite at the top of it.

Calciomercato report that Manchester United sent representatives to watch the Brazil international at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium last last season. Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on the former Torino star.

Bremer made the short trip across the city to Juventus in a deal worth £35 million 12 months ago.

“Physically, he is impressive,” says Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny (Tuttosport). “He’s a very calm boy. But, physically, he is a good player. The speed, the power he has; Really impressive.”

“It is a great pleasure to have him at Juve,” adds striker Dusan Vlahovic. “He is the best defender in Serie A.”

Vlahovic himself has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Ditto Adrien Rabiot; Bremer now the third Juventus player to emerge in conjunction with Manchester United.
