Manchester United are now being linked with a move to sign Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic after showing promise in Serie A.

Manchester United raided the Italian market for an exciting young striker over the summer, landing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

Hojlund is yet to open his account in the Premier League but has scored five times in just four Champions League outings.

The signs from Hojlund are encouraging, but it’s obvious that United need another striker to help the Dane.

Anthony Martial just isn’t that player and United may now look to Serie A for another striking addition in 2024…

Manchester United linked with Nikola Krstovic move

Calciomercato in Italy now suggested that United could move for Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic.

It’s stated that Lecce paid just €4million (£3.5million) to sign Krstovic over the summer but may already cash in.

The report claims that Inter Milan would like to sign Krstovic, but Premier League clubs are taking notice too.

United are the only ones mentioned, with the report suggesting that Erik ten Hag could launch a ‘low-cost’ move for Krstovic.

Who is Lecce striker Krstovic?

Krstovic hails from Montenegro and and emerged with FK Zeta in the capital city of Podgorica.

41 goals in 99 games earned Krstovic a move to Serbia with Crvena zvezda in 2019, but he struggled to make an impact.

Krstovic spent time on loan at Graficar in Serbia before heading to Slovakia in 2021, joining Dunajska Streda.

The 23-year-old was a sensation for Dunajska Streda, hitting 37 goals in 66 appearances before Lecce pounced.

Krstovic has now hit four goals in 12 games for Lecce, making a red-hot start to the season before going on a run of just one goal in nine games.

The Italian media haven’t been too impressed with the drop in form, suggesting that Krstovic looked like a ‘phenomenon’ to start the season but has now disappeared.

“He’s surprised everyone. But not us. We were aware of his ability. He’s a polished player,” said Lecce sporting director Stefano Trinchera whilst speaking to The Athletic earlier this year.

Former Argentina and Lecce star Pedro Pablo Pasculli has praised Krstovic as an ‘excellent player’ but the goals have dried up a little.

Going in with a January move may be a risk if Krstovic doesn’t turn his form around, but maybe United will think that he is worth a low-cost punt.
