“According to what our editorial team has learned, the target in this sense is Yassine Bounou.”
Manchester United know exactly how good Bounou is, with the goalkeeper impressing in victories against the club in the Europa League in 2021 and 2023. He wears ‘Bono’ on the back of his shirt.
Last season for Sevilla he was challenged for game time by Marko Dmitrovic and his spot as number one is not guaranteed.
TMW add that the move is ‘difficult but not impossible’, and depends on whether Bounou is prepared to be Onana’s back-up.
Ten Hag wants three dependable goalkeepers
Erik ten Hag insisted on having three goalkeepers he could turn to, amid risks of injuries and suspensions during the season.
Last season he had David de Gea, Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton, with Jack Butland replacing Dubravka mid-season when he was recalled.
Only Heaton remains from that group. He was linked to Luton by The Telegraph last month.
A move for Bounou would be interesting, if he is content to be a number two. But if that ends up being his role at Sevilla, then upgrading to Old Trafford may prove tempting.
