Manchester United are taking steps to understand the feasibility of signing a surprise name for the heart of the defence, according to reports.
This summer promises to be one of the most important rebuilds in Manchester United’s recent history with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos taking the steps to have experienced people in place to oversee said rebuild.
One aspect of the club that needs rebuilding is the defensive side of the team with multiple defenders reportedly having uncertain futures at Old Trafford, according to ESPN.
United have been linked with a host of names for the centre-back role and reports from Italy have linked the Red Devils with another candidate.

Gleison Bremer interest
According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, United are looking to understand just how feasible a deal for the Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer would be in the summer.
United are keen to understand if the Brazilian would be interested in a move to Old Trafford and if Juventus would be willing to part ways with the former Torino defender.
United, who could lose Raphael Varane, at a minimum, in the summer, will need to strengthen their backline, and the Brazilian appears to be one of their top targets.
Juventus would indeed be willing to sell the defender but would demand £59 million for the 24-year-old with the Brazilian having ambitions to play in another league.
Whether United would have the money to sign Bremer without Champions League football remains to be seen but it does look like the Juventus ace is a target.
United’s need for a defensive rebuild
United have had a shaky season, which may well be an understatement, their lack of attacking cohesion has not been helped by the team lacking any stability in their defence.
This has led to the team shipping goals at an alarming rate with their Champions League struggles, in particular, evidence of this with the Red Devils conceding 15 goals in six group stage games. The Red Devils have also shipped 29 goals in the Premier League this campaign.
The injury troubles haven’t helped and a true clearout could well do wonders for the club as injury issues continue to plague the back four.
