Manchester United want to sign Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to offer cover and competition for David de Gea.
The Telegraph report that United view the 35-year-old as the perfect backup to the Spaniard after Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest.
De Gea has had a tough start to the season, and played a huge part in the concession of the first two goals at Brentford on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag is also insistent on having a goalkeeper who can play out from the back and that is something de Gea struggles with.

Manchester United want Begovic
Begovic is a veteran these days and is currently number two at Goodison Park, behind England number one Jordan Pickford.
That is the role he would likely play at United, relegating Tom Heaton down to third in the pecking order once again.
The Telegraph have previously reported United interest in Begovic from March 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.
They reported that Ferguson was willing to smash the then British record fee for a goalkeeper with a £20 million move, but of course the great Scot retired within weeks and the move did not happen.
It is hard to escape the feeling that United are approaching their goalkeeping situation in completely the wrong way.
There was a chance that Ten Hag would do a Pep Guardiola on Joe Hart and look to replace de Gea because of his capabilities with his feet.
Perhaps the Dutchman has decided that he has too many other problems in the side to take on a battle with the club’s player of the season.
But in that case, keep Heaton as second choice – can Begovic really offer anything the former Aston Villa man can’t? – wait a year, and spend the right money to get a long-term replacement for de Gea who is better with his feet.
