Manchester United’s interest in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney is understood to have cooled after the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund.
We are only just out of the summer transfer window and yet the rumour mill for 2024 is already starting.
The future of Brentford striker Ivan Toney is already under the microscope – even though he can’t actually play at the moment.
Toney is banned from playing until January 16th due to gambling charges, but he has been back training with Brentford this week.
The 27-year-old is out of contract in 2025 and Brentford may well choose to cash in on the striker during the January window.
Manchester United’s Ivan Toney interest wanes
The Mirror now claim that Brentford would be seeking a deal worth £60million for Toney – and if they don’t get that money, they are happy to wait until the summer.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are all mentioned as potential suitors but Manchester United may not be in the mix.
This report claims that United’s interest in signing Toney has ‘waned’ having secured the signing of Rasmus Hojlund over the summer.
Reports from Football Transfers in August suggested that United had spoken to Toney about a potential move to Old Trafford – even after Hojlund’s arrival.
Yet with Hojlund showing immediate promise in the Premier League, it now sounds like United aren’t quite as interested in signing Toney.

There is an argument to sign Toney too
We can understand United not wanting to commit another huge fee to a striker.
Hojlund wasn’t cheap and it sounds like Brentford would be seeking a similar kind of fee for their prized striker.
That would be huge money to spend but it’s difficult to ask Hojlund to carry the United goalscoring burden given his age and relative inexperience.
Signing a proven Premier League striker like Toney would not only help ease that burden but also give Hojlund somebody to learn from in attack.
We would still like to see United get involved in the Toney race, even if it’s more likely that a summer push would come from Ten Hag and co.
