Manchester United have made ‘initial contacts’ over a deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
We’re expecting confirmation of a deal for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir very, very soon.
The focus will then surely turn to signing a new midfielder with Erik ten Hag in need of another option.
Mason Mount is injured, Casemiro hasn’t been at his best and Christian Eriksen doesn’t have the defensive instincts United need.
Rumours surrounding Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat have been rumbling all summer long and yet no deal has been done.
Amadou Onana and Ryan Gravenberch have been linked too but United could now launch a raid on a Premier League rival.
Manchester United make contact for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg deal
The Telegraph claimed on Monday that United had been offered the chance to sign Højbjerg before the transfer deadline.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth now offers an update, claiming that United have made ‘initial contacts’ into a deal for Højbjerg.
MORE UNITED STORIES
Having been invited to open talks with Højbjerg, it sounds like United at least have some level of interest in the Dane.
Tottenham paid around £15million to sign Højbjerg from Southampton in 2020 and would be looking for around double that figure now.
Benched for Tottenham’s first three games of the season, Højbjerg seems to be available and United are at least discussing a potential deal.

Erik ten Hag could sign another of his former players in Højbjerg
We have seen United boss Ten Hag move for a number of his former players since grabbing the Old Trafford hot seat.
Lisandro Martinez and Antony arrived from Ajax after Ten Hag whilst Andre Onana has come in this summer having also worked with Ten Hag in Amsterdam.
There now seems to be a strong chance that United’s next midfield signing is also a player with history under Ten Hag.
That could be Højbjerg, who played under Ten Hag during their time together in the Bayern Munich second team.
Amrabat is the other major option having featured under Ten Hag at FC Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Højbjerg, hailed as a ‘warrior’ by Antonio Conte, could be the man for Ten Hag but we would still suggest that Amrabat is the more likely signing.
