Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton now looks set to stay at the club following the 37-year-old goalkeeper being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper has been linked to newly-promoted Premier League club Luton Town according to The Telegraph.

But, according to Alex Crook from TalkSport, the goalkeeper is now set to stay at Old Trafford following an impressive pre-season for the United academy graduate.

According to The Telegraph, Dean Henderson seems likely to leave United, with Nottingham Forest in negotiations to sign the Englishman, although it seems the deal could be a loan with an obligation to buy.

Suzuki deal off?

United have been linked with American-born Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Urawa Red Diamonds, with United in talks to sign the goalkeeper according to the Manchester Evening News.

However, the news that Heaton could be staying may well alter that deal for United. Whether United would sanction the signing of Suzuki remains to be seen if Heaton remains.

Heaton as a backup goalkeeper for Andre Onana would certainly not be anything for United fans to balk at.

With the 37-year-old most likely playing games in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, he certainly would be a more than capable stand-in for the domestic cup games.

Heaton impresses during pre-season

One surprising aspect of the former Burnley goalkeeper during pre-season has been his distribution and his calmness under pressure.

Oftentimes, during United’s 2-0 win against Arsenal, Heaton would be pressed well but would find the gap to be able to find his teammates and start United attacks.

The calmness shown on the ball won’t have gone unnoticed by Ten Hag and his coaching staff. Composure, when pressed, was something that former goalkeeper David De Gea would really struggle with.

Heaton has also said he has picked things up from United’s new number one already.

“He looks really good with his feet,” Heaton said, speaking to The Athletic. “I’m already picking up a little bit about how he does things slightly different to what I’ve seen before.”
