Manchester United have been drawn against Bayern Munich in the Champions League amid their interest in Scott McTominay.
The transfer deadline is dominating headlines at the moment but there was a brief pause for the Champions League draw on Thursday.
United fans ditched reading about Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat to learn the European opponents for Erik ten Hag this season.
The big news is that United will be taking on Bayern Munich in a blockbuster clash from Group A.
FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray round out the group for United, presenting a couple of potential banana skins.
The big games come against Bayern though, with Ten Hag no doubt looking to beat his former employers.
Manchester United won’t let Scott McTominay go now
United have plenty of work to do before the transfer deadline but one move which surely won’t happen now is McTominay to Bayern.
Fans were stunned last weekend when Sport Bild reported that Bayern were interested in taking McTominay on loan, possibly in exchange for Ryan Gravenberch.
Gravenberch now looks set to join Liverpool instead and Bayern surely have no chance of landing McTominay now.
MORE UNITED STORIES
No way would United allow McTominay to join Bayern with the Champions League now on the line.
Not only would United be losing a key squad player but would also be strengthening a direct rival.
United and Bayern will be favourites to go through the group but the battle for top spot will be huge – and McTominay surely won’t be allowed to help the Bayern cause.

Joao Palhinha is Bayern’s new top target
Bayern appear to have given up on McTominay now, no doubt realising after the Champions League draw that there was no chance.
Fulham star Joao Palhinha has now become Bayern’s top target and a move is drawing closer and closer.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Bayern have an agreement in place for Palhinha and he is undergoing a medical in Munich.
Bayern have found the midfielder they wanted and will now be able to unleash Palhinha against United in the Champions League.
United already know how good Palhinha can be having seen him shine for Fulham, but will also be glad to know that McTominay is surely staying now.
