Manager gives warning over £40m Manchester United target

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has warned Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund needs time to reach his potential.

The Times reported earlier this month that Rasmus Hojlund is one of Manchester United’s striker targets for the summer.

The Denmark international has scored 18 goals for club and country this season.

But he has finished the season in an inconsistent manner, scoring just one goal since the international break.

Warning over Rasmus Hojlund

Atalanta slipped to a 3-2 loss to Inter Milan at the weekend with Hojlund not on the scoresheet.

Manager Gasperini told club outlet Pazzi Di Fanta thatHojlund has a long way to go, despite his potential.

He said: “Rasmus is a forward born in 2003, so he should be taken with all his strengths and weaknesses. Among those of his age he is among the best, if not the best.

“Clearly right now he’s not mature yet, he needs to train and play a lot. Maybe over time it will come to a big club.”

Hojlund, 20, has a record which ranks among the best players in Europe for his age.

He would be a developmental option for Manchester United in addition to a Harry Kane, rather than the first choice option.

Gasperini’s warning probably isn’t anything Manchester United’s scouts haven’t picked up on already. The club would recognise they would be buying potential, rather than the finished product.

With a reported price tag of £40 million, Hojlund would be a risk worth taking for United. If that price were to rise substantially, then expect the club to look elsewhere.
