Fenerbahce manager Ismail Kartal has confirmed Altay Bayindir is leaving the club.

Quoted by Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Kartal wished Bayindir well for the future in his next challenge.

The newspaper reports Bayindir has agreed to sign with Manchester United, where the goalkeeper will serve as a back-up to Andre Onana.

Bayindir will cost United a fee of around £6 million, with Fenerbahce accepting Bayindir’s desire to move on.

Altay Bayindir to Manchester United

Kartal explained that Bayindir leaves with his full blessing. He said: “Altay is one of the important players of Fenerbahçe and Turkish football.

“These things happen in football. I would like to thank Altay for his services. He has started his new adventure, I wish you success in this journey. He represents us very well there.”

Bayindir was pictured saying goodbye to supporters last night as Fenerbahce beat Twente 5-1 in a Europa Conference League qualifier.

He was an unused substitute as Fred‘s new side eased to a convincing win.

Next step for Bayindir

Bayindir is now set to fly to Manchester to complete his move, which should be announced over the next few days.

There is no possibility of him being in the squad for this weekend’s match, but he could be on the bench to face Arsenal in a week’s time.

United meanwhile are expected to loan or sell Dean Henderson to raise funds, with Tom Heaton expected back from injury soon.
