Man Utd transfer news: Borussia Dortmund now want RB Leipzig target

Manchester United are now set to enjoy a transfer tug-of-war over Anthony Elanga in the summer after Borussia Dortmund rekindled their interest in the RB Leipzig target.

That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that Borussia Dortmund now want to take Elanga to Germany again. BVB explored tempting the 21-year-old to move to the Bundesliga in January. But they could not secure any deal for him to head to the Westfalenstadion then.

Yet the North Rhine-Westphalia outfit recently selling Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for an initial £88.5m, rising to £115m after add-ons, has freed funds to pursue the Sweden forward once again. Manchester United are also open to any offers for Elanga’s transfer this summer.

Manchester United slash their asking price for Anthony Elanga’s transfer

Elanga struggled to establish a prominent place at Old Trafford during Erik ten Hag’s maiden term in charge. The 12-cap gem, who Zlatan Ibrahimovic called a ‘great talent’ in 2022, only started in seven of his 26 appearances. He also offered just two assists and failed to score.

Now, despite Elanga’s contract running until June 2026, Manchester United are ready to sell the winger for just £10m. Old Trafford chiefs have slashed their asking price for his signature. The Manchester Evening News also reported a £10m price tag for Elanga at the end of May.

It further noted that Manchester United halved their asking price for Elanga given his status on Ten Hag’s fringes in 2022/23. The Red Devils had initially intended to send the Swede out on loan in 2023/24. But his inability to find a way into Ten Hag’s side forced them to rethink.

Borussia Dortmund could spark a transfer tug-of-war with RB Leipzig

Yet Borussia Dortmund reviving their interest in Elanga’s transfer could spark a tug-of-war to rebuild Manchester United’s valuation. Florian Plettenberg also reported earlier in June that BVB’s Bundesliga rivals, RB Leipzig, had opened talks over his potential transfer this summer.

The Sky Germany journalist also suggested a price tag of around €15-20m (£13-17m) with a host of other teams keen. Elanga is firmly in the shop window this summer to tempt several clubs to make enquiries. And Borussia Dortmund joining any race should increase his value.
