Manchester United could be about to miss out on one of their transfer targets for January as Spurs close in on a deal.
Strikers seem to be the order of the day for Manchester United in January with multiple different options all being linked simultaneously.
It comes as Anthony Martial is expected to leave this month at the earliest, but definitely by the start of next season.
In order to support 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund therefore, United want an experienced scorer to ease the burden on the Dane.
But despite links in recent weeks, it appears that won’t be in the form of Timo Werner.

Manchester United to miss out on Timo Werner
It was only yesterday that the £165k-a-week man, Werner was tipped as one to watch for United by journalist Ben Jacobs but now it seems he’s instead headed to London.
This is according to Florian Plettenberg who tweeted an exclusive on Saturday morning to suggest Tottenham Hotspur now look likely to complete the signing of Werner.
He explained that Spurs are on the verge of agreeing a six-month loan to sign the German forward before classing the deal as ‘very hot’.
Final negotiations are today and Werner is believed to be ready to depart Leipzig.
United have Werner alternatives
With Werner possibly off the table, United will need to now revert to their list of targets in search of a different option.
One will likely be Serhou Guirassy, although his signing would probably depend on sales, which could explain the rumoured sale of Alvaro Fernandez.
Outside of this, recent Eric Choupo-Moting interest has been refuted recently which makes missing out on Werner a blow with options now limited unless the club go back to the drawing board.
