Man Utd suddenly moving to hijack Premier League club in midfielder pursuit

Manchester United could swoop in to hijack Luton Town’s move for LDU Quito midfielder Oscar Zambrano amid fears he could be another Moises Caicedo.

United aren’t expected to be busy in the January window despite a disappointing season to date.

First-team additions will be in short supply but United may still look to add talents for the future.

We saw that in February of 2023 as teenager Gabriele Biancheri arrived from Cardiff City after the January transfer window.

United could pounce again, this time looking to bring an Ecuadorian talent to Old Trafford…

Manchester United keen to land Oscar Zambrano

El Futbolero in South America report that Luton Town have made an offer for LDU Quito midfielder Oscar Zambrano.

However, LDU Quito are now delaying accepting that bid because there is sudden interest from both Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion.

It’s suggested that LDU Quito now want to hang on and attempt to get the best deal for Zambrano.

The report claims that United don’t want to miss out on Zambrano having squandered the chance to sign Moises Caicedo in 2021.

Reports in Ecuador suggested that United were close to securing a £4.5million deal to sign Caicedo from Independiente del Valle.

United missed out though and Caicedo ended up becoming a star at Brighton before completing a massive move to Chelsea in August 2023.

El Futbolero now suggest that United talk about Zambrano as the ‘new Caicedo’ due to their similar styles and could now pip Luton to his signature.

Who is United target Zambrano?

United have been linked with Zambrano for a while now and we profiled the midfielder back in September.

Zambrano, 19, has emerged in the LDU Quito ranks, spending his entire career at the club barring a brief spell with rivals America de Quito.

A diminutive but combative midfield player, Zambrano has now made 48 appearances for LDU Quito and has been a regular for Ecuador at Under-20 level.

One interesting note is that Zambrano went on trial with Ajax during Erik ten Hag’s final months in Amsterdam.

Whilst Zambrano may have been lined up for the Jong Ajax side, Ten Hag may well have spotted his potential during that brief time with the Eredivisie side.

United may now make a move for Zambrano this month in the hope that he can become like Caicedo in the coming years.
