Manchester United are taking a real interest in Everton standout Jarrad Branthwaite as they scouted him this past weekend vs Aston Villa.
Erik ten Hag was handed a massive boost over the weekend when Lisandro Martinez made his comeback in a cameo against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Argentine has been sorely missed by Manchester United and the reception he received from fans demonstrated that. Jonny Evans has been a regular in his absence and while he’s been good, he’s not quite the level required.
So with Martinez’s injury woes making it tough to rely on him over the past year, United are desperate to strengthen in defence. This search has led them to Everton’s 21-year-old titan who is currently impressing in the Premier League.
Now, United have taken a step further in their interest.

Manchester United scouted Jarrad Branthwaite last weekend
According to the Daily Mail‘s transfer confidential newsletter on Monday, United took a huge step in affirming their interest in Jarrad Branthwaite.
The report explains that United had scouts at this past Sunday’s game between Everton and Aston Villa with the intention of watching Branthwaite in action.
The ‘magnificent‘ defender played his part as the sides drew 0-0 in yet another solid display from the £100m valued star.
The performance he put in will have done nothing to dispell interest from United as he racked up a FotMob rating of 7.2 in the clean sheet.
Branthwaite impresses in front of United scouts
With scouts watching on, Branthwaite had a dominant defensive display to show them which will no doubt have impressed.
He won seven from eight duels attempted but 100% of his aerial duels which is a quality United could use.
He made 11 defensive actions – five clearances, three headed clearances and then two interceptions along with a tackle.
He was great on the ball for Everton as he made three passes into the final third which is huge in terms of progression from the defence.
His qualities are tailor made for Ten Hag and it’s no surprise the Dutchman has such a fondness.
