Manchester United are keen on Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, which could lead to an emotional reunion with Mason Mount.
Manchester United fans probably weren’t expecting to see links to Trevoh Chalobah ahead of the January transfer window.
Chalobah seems surplus to requirements at Chelsea and The Mirror claim that he is likely to be their first January sale.
TEAMtalk now claim that United are battling Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Chalobah.
Whether Chelsea would want to sell to a top Premier League rival is unclear but United are now thought to be in the race.
Trevoh Chalobah could reunite with Mason Mount at Manchester United
If United do move for Chalobah, a deal would see him join forces with former Chelsea teammate Mason Mount at Old Trafford.
The pair know each other very well; in fact, only four players have featured alongside Mount in more games than Chalobah.
Mount and Chalobah have turned out 106 times together across games in the Chelsea youth ranks, Chelsea first team and even England youth sides.
They know each other very well and have shown their friendship in the public eye over the years.
Mount sent Chalobah a birthday message in 2020, stating ‘from day one, you’ve been my boy’.
Chalobah also tweeted ‘My boy’ alongside crying and broken heart emojis when Mount was sold to United.
It’s clear that the pair struck up a great bond at Chelsea and it’s funny how football can change; come 2024, they may end up being teammates at United.

Chalobah may fit rumoured United criteria
The Manchester Evening News reported in September that United would like to sign an athletic centre back who can offer competition for Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman has been injury-prone during his time at United and it’s reasonable to suggest that he is losing some athleticism – as highlighted by Paul Scholes.
Chalobah may well fit the bill; he’s tall at 6ft 4in tall and has shown a decent turn of pace in the Premier League.
This may not be a signing to get United fans excited, but Chalobah would count as a homegrown player and can provide competition at the back whilst also being able to play at right back and in midfield.
That will appeal to Chalobah, and the hope would be that any deal would help Mount finally find his best form at United.
