Manchester United are still in the hunt for a new striker this summer.

After scoring just 44 goals in the Premier League last season, Ruben Amorim is trying to address the problems Manchester United had in front of goal.

Rasmus Hojlund led the line for a second season and struggled, scoring just 10 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions.

The lack of strikers at United means that Amorim is under pressure to solve the team’s goalscoring problems, especially after suffering such a dire 2024/25 season.

United have signed two forwards already this summer, with Matheus Cunha joining from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo completing his switch from Brentford. They scored 37 goals in the Premier League between them last season and look certain to add to United’s firepower next term.

Only time will tell if United can add a striker to the mix that will allow Cunha and Mbeumo to flourish at Old Trafford.

After appearing to miss out on signing Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal, United have no other choice but to search the market for alternative striker targets.

Many strikers have been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams since the beginning of the summer. The list includes players with Premier League experience, such as Ollie Watkins and Jamie Vardy, but also others further afield.

The shortage of top striker options could see Ineos target wildcard options.

According to L’Equipe, Manchester United have entered a big race to sign FC Metz’s Idrissa Gueye.

The 18-year-old striker joined Metz from Senegal’s Generation Foot in January and signed a contract until 2029.

Gueye made 20 appearances for Metz, scoring five goals and registering one assist, which has led to United taking notice.

After attracting interest from 10 or more suitors, the French newspaper claims United and Borussia Dortmund have ‘entered into negotiations’ with Gueye’s entourage.

It remains to be seen if a deal with Gueye will materialise.

Man Utd links to Senegal

There has only ever been one Senegal international to play for United’s first team.

Legendary full-back Patrice Evra was born in Dakar but represented France on the international stage.

Mame Biram Diouf played for United from 2009 to 2012, making nine appearances and scoring one goal.

Diouf joined Hannover 96 in 2012 on a two-year deal and currently plays for Turkish side Ankara Keçiörengücü S.K.

Gueye would become the second Senegal international to join United if he signs this summer.
