Manchester United are looking to strengthen several different areas when the transfer window opens this summer.
Ruben Amorim hopes to continue building his Manchester United squad for future success, after adding two new recruits during the January transfer window.
United welcomed versatile Danish full-back Patrick Dorgu from Leece – in a deal worth £29 million – as well as Ayden Heaven in a bargain £1.5 million transfer from Arsenal.
But this will be Amorim’s first summer as United head coach he must wait to find out how much Ineos plan to spend on new players. One way to boost the transfer kitty is by winning the Europa League to secure Champions League qualification.
Most United fans would argue that a striker should be the priority signing this summer, while Amorim will also aim to bolster his options in midfield and defence.
This means members of United’s first-team will be looking over their shoulder in hope of being part of Amorim’s long-term plans.

Manchester United make contact over Bart Verbruggen
All eyes are on Andre Onana after his pre-match comments about Lyon when he stated Manchester United are ‘way better’ than their Ligue 1 opponents.
The comments only apply more pressure to Onana, who hasn’t covered himself in glory since signing for United from Inter Milan in 2023. This has led to repeat claims United could look to part ways with the Cameroon international in the summer.
According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, United have made contact regarding Bart Verbruggen from Brighton, with AC Milan also understood to be interested in a potential deal.
The Dutch goalkeeper is a major talent with Premier League experience and any suggestion that United are eyeing a new stopper spells danger for Onana, who has had two problematic seasons at Old Trafford.
Brighton paid £16.3 million when they signed Verbruggen from Anderlecht in 2023. Now, it is expected that they will demand more than double of that to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, Milan are likely to compete for Verbruggen’s signature since they are looking to replace the impressive Mike Maignan, with the French goalkeeper’s contract set to expire next year.
Footballers who played for Manchester United and Brighton
It remains to seen if Bart Verbruggen will become the next player to represent both United and Brighton because that would require an agreement between the clubs.
Other players include United academy graduates Danny Welbeck, Jesse Lingard and James Wilson.
Welbeck has thus far made a total of 267 appearances for United and Brighton together.
- Danny Welbeck: 112 appearances for Manchester United, 155 appearances and counting for Brighton.
- Jesse Lingard: 232 appearances for Manchester United, 15 appearances for Brighton
- Tomasz Kuszczak: 43 appearances for Manchester United, 84 appearances for Brighton
- James Wilson: 31 appearances for Manchester United, 25 appearances for Brighton
