Manchester United remain keen to sign a new midfielder this summer despite the chances of signing Carlos Baleba being drastically dropped.

Ruben Amorim has managed to turn around the feeling at Manchester United this summer, despite an opening weekend loss.

Against Arsenal, United were brilliant and deserved to win the game if it was not for the Gunners getting lucky.

Altay Bayindir was the culprit of the defeat, with Roy Keane slamming United’s goalkeeper for his role in the defeat. Following this, talk of signing a new goalkeeper re-emerged.

However, this is not the only position the club are thought to still be keen to add to, with midfield reinforcements needed.

Manchester United have asked Atalanta about Ederson

Casemiro was impressive against Arsenal, however, over the course of a season, United still need more legs in the middle.

United look unlikely to sign Carlos Baleba this summer, with Brighton demanding a ludicrous amount of money to make it happen. While, Lucien Agoume has been raised as a target for United this summer priced at £35m.

Now, United in Focus understands via Graeme Bailey, that Atalanta’s Ederson is another possibility, as he was raised during talks over Rasmus Hojlund.

“Ederson is a fascinating player, long linked with England almost every major club has looked at him and not just looked but liked what they have seen, but the situation has not been right.

“Now Man United are looking, why wouldn’t Ederson be back on their radar – he could easily fill the CDM slot that Ruben Amorim clearly wants.

“I am told that there has been contact between Atalanta and United in the last few days, and the two clubs talked about a few different subjects.

“One of them was Rasmus Hojlund – Atalanta were enquiring about what United are looking for, they need a striker and can offer Champions League football. Whilst it is believed AC Milan are Hojlund’s preference, a move back to Bergamo could very well appeal.

“So during these talks, I am informed that Ederson’s name did come up – United are doing their work on options.”

Signing Ederson would be a big upgrade on the current options in midfield, with Fabio Capello even labelling him as being “out of this world”, with United being suitors over the past few months.

Ineos can take advantage of John Murtough

Earlier this year, it emerged that former United director of football John Murtough had found a new job within football, taking him to Bergamo in Italy.

Here, Murtough is now locked into talks with United regarding Hojlund returning to Serie A and also the Red Devils signing Ederson.

Murtough was the man behind the deal to sign Hojlund for £64m back in 2023, and now Ineos can take advantage of Murtough’s poor decisions and see it benefit United.

There will be a deal which suits United for both and Jason Wilcox needs to make this happen.
