Manchester United are focused on strengthening the midfield right now, but are potentially going to miss out on one Michael Carrick target.

The transfer window opens in a few weeks, but Manchester United are close to signing Ederson already, which is being widely reported in Italy and the UK.

This deal is furthest along right now, with Mateus Fernandes also looking likely to be moved for in the coming weeks.

But while the midfield is the priority, Ineos might be about to miss out on another key position and a player Michael Carrick would consider a dream signing.

Arsenal in talks to sign Morgan Rogers

Left-wing is arguably the second priority for Manchester United this summer, and Morgan Rogers is considered among the top targets.

United have been linked with a move for Rogers for much of the season, with Michael Carrick managing him at Middlesbrough and thus is said to consider him a dream signing.

But talkSPORT have now cast doubt on United’s chances, with Arsenal reportedly ready to step up their interest.

Mikel Arteta is personally driving the transfer in an attempt to convince the Aston Villa forward to move to North London.

Already, ‘in talks’ at a preliminary level with Rogers’ advisors, with his arrival seen as a statement signing for the club.

However, United are said to be in competition for Rogers, alongside Chelsea, but it is noted that Jason Wilcox is a huge admirer of Rogers, as is Carrick, which could even give United the upper hand.

But without a move soon, Rogers may be Arsenal bound.

Manchester United have reason to act quickly this summer

Last summer, Manchester United’s transfer business started fast but there were over a month between Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo then also Benjamin Sesko after that.

But this summer United don’t have the luxury, with the transfer targets being considered first choice also wanted by some of the most attractive sides in Europe and therefore waiting would see United miss out.

If United really want Rogers, they are going to have to make a move and beat Arsenal to his signature.

But this could also be said for Fernandes, who United need to get wrapped up as soon as possible to avoid PSG coming in for him.

United are shopping in a higher market this summer, and so Wilcox and Christopher Vivell need to get a move on.

No time to waste for United, if they want him, the bidding war should be commenced.
