Manchester United have been told what it would cost to sign Evan Ferguson next summer if the club’s interest in the Republic of Ireland forward remains.

Evan Ferguson has lit up the Premier League and the teenager is attracting a lot of interest from clubs in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were linked with a move for the forward by Sky Sports but it was always expected to be next summer when the youngster would leave the Amex Stadium due to the new contract he signed a few months back.

However, in an unexpected twist, Ferguson signed yet another new contract with Brighton & Hove Albion as they look to fend off interest from other sides in the Premier League.

Ferguson price revealed

According to a report from talkSPORT, any interested clubs in Ferguson would need to pay a ‘minimum’ of £100 million for the Irish forward next summer.

The report states Brighton owner Tony Bloom is of the belief Ferguson is now worth even more than former teammate Moises Caicedo, who cost Chelsea a British record fee of £115m.

The teenager’s new contract with the Seagulls doesn’t expire until 2029 and the contract does not include a release clause, which is a big blow to these sides who are unwilling to negotiate with Brighton, United included.

United’s lack of funds

The money is simply not there for United to push the boat out and make one of the biggest signings of the summer anymore.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent acquisition of United will surely help in this regard but the priority needs to be the facilities at the club and not the playing side.

Of course, the playing side is important but until the structure of the backroom staff and the facilities are right then the club will never progress.

Ferguson’s stance on the situation is that he would be keen on remaining at Brighton and playing under Roberto De Zerbi, so these rumours may well need to be put to bed.
