Manchester United have reportedly already decided on a lead candidate for the centre-back position, ahead of making a move next summer.
Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva, Edmond Tapsoba and Marc Guehi are among the names on the club’s list of targets in that area of the pitch, according to a report from CaughtOffside.
However, one name has been mentioned more than most and the same report says that he is now the overwhelming favourite amongst the recruitment department at Old Trafford.
Centre-back is understandably high on the list of targets for Erik ten Hag next summer with the injury issues surrounding Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane meaning he has been without his first-choice pairing throughout the season and will be until at least Christmas.

United’s preference
Well, the club have reportedly settled on Jean-Clair Todibo as the target that they will push for next summer.
The former Barcelona defender has been in top form for OGC Nice this summer as they currently sit top of Ligue 1, ahead of Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint Germain.
Todibo was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer but Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham United falling through, according to The Guardian, meant the club couldn’t afford the Frenchman.
Now, however, they are primed and ready to make a move with the French side demanding £44 million for the defender.
Chelsea are also believed to be keen on the Frenchman but the Blues have yet to make their move according to the same report.
United’s centre-back decision
If Todibo were to join in the summer then the club may well have a surplus of options in the heart of the defence.
It looked like Maguire was to be the man who would be leaving Old Trafford but CaughtOffside goes on to say that Varane is now the favourite to leave the club.
Saudi sides are beginning to circle for the defender and he could be ready to leave the club this summer.
Losing a player of Varane’s quality and stature would be a big blow but the harsh reality is that, despite how good he is when he plays, he struggles to be consistently relied upon due to his injuries.
