Jaw-dropping £8m teenage Man Utd target now handed first senior international call-up

As Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo was denied his first senior England call-up this week, one Spanish gem has gotten his.

Across Europe every year we see players emerge who before had barely been known to the majority.

For Manchester United, we saw the footballing world be introduced to Alejandro Garnacho last year and now this season, it’s been Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo was tipped to be getting his first senior call-up ahead of this international break, but it hasn’t been the case with Gareth Southgate pointing toward his lack of experience and youth as a reason for him getting an U21 call-up instead.

But now a certain target for the Old Trafford outfit has gotten his first senior call-up aged just 17, and for Spain.

Pau Cubarsi called up to Spain’s senior side

FC Barcelona wonderkid Pau Cubarsi is the man who received his inaugural call-up aged just 17, the perfect end to a week which saw him shine in a jaw-dropping Champions League display for the Catalan giants.

This is a move which will be of particular interest for Manchester United due to the fact they’re reported to be keen admirers of the defender.

Cubarsi has a release clause of £8m and there’s an indication that he could be a real option this summer for Ineos’ defensive overhaul.

The teenager has already made himself known to the European elites but being named in the senior side for Spain will only see interest in him grow.

Often we hear about United missing out on players who go on to become world-beaters, and this feels like a similar situation.

If the youngster prefers to remain at Barcelona there’s little that can be done, but if there is a chance to take him, United must do everything to get it done.

At just £8m, he represents incredible value for money and could easily explode into a £50m player if that release clause was out the window.

Such a low fee makes the move low-risk high reward for United and with a couple of centre-halves needed, this could be a smart move to make, and also reminiscent of Gerard Pique’s United move.
